2. Election'2008 - What do you think about it?
Your view on the Parliament Election 2008. Is this going to be a fair Election, what Awami League need to do, is there any threat or any other issue!! Do not hesitate to let us know.

The election 1991 was a bit fair side then the election in 2001 was greatly rigged.
Awami League has to make sure that it is not going to happen again, if it does and the whole courty will be in deep trouble.

Dhaka, Nov 30 – The High Court has said those convicted for more than two years in cases filed under emergency powers rules will not be able run for elections, but in line with the Constitution those sentenced to less than two years under EPR may contest.
"Rule 11(5) of the Emergency Powers Rules 2007 is effective subject to constitutional provision embodied in Article 66 (2)(Gha)," ruled the HC bench of justices Nazmun Ara Sultana and Md Rezaul Haque Sunday, on a writ petition filed by former communication minister barrister Nazmul Huda.
Deputy attorney general JBM Hassan told bdnews24.com: "The ruling means that those sentenced to more than two years will not be eligible but those convicted for less than two years will be able to contest elections."
As Nazmul Huda has been convicted for more than two years he will not be able to run for elections, the DAG added.
Huda's lawyer Ashanur Rahman, however, claimed Rule11(5) of the EPR was invalidated after the ruling.
He also said that his client would be able to run for elections as he had appealed against his verdict.
"There is precedent that one can run for elections under appeal against a conviction," the lawyer said.
The issue must be considered as per the constitution, Rahman added.
However, JBM Hassan replied in the negative when asked if those convicted would be able to run during their appeal.
On whether the ruling would be applicable for all convicts, the DAG said: "The court's ruling on the writ petition will be applicable for all."
Constitutional expert barrister Shafik Ahmed in his interpretation of the ruling told bdnews24.com: "The ruling is valid as the Constitution keeps the provision that those convicted of corruption will not be able to run for elections."
"The High Court passed the order keeping the provision of the Constitution intact," he said.
Rule 11(5) of the EPR states that any person convicted for any length of sentence under the Rules, even under appeal against the verdict, will not be able to run for any elections, local or national.
Article 66(2)(Gha) of the Constitution states that no person is eligible to be elected as a lawmaker or remain as such if he is convicted to two years or more in a criminal case, and remains ineligible up to five years after his release from prison.
The former communication minister filed the writ petition on Oct 28 with the High Court protesting that Rule 11(5) of the EPR went against Article 66(2)(Gha) of the Constitution.
Though I know none of the political parties, I would very much like to see AL win since we have no better choice.Some points to note:
AL seems now to be a bit overconfident regarding the result, which may be detrimental. A lot of new people got party nomination, I am afraid if they all can win or we will see result like that in 2001.Some candidates are not even well known in their electoral area.
For the campaign, there are lots of good materials that AL can use effectively. Some video footage from TV news might help a lot.
No thoughts as yet. Just hoping something good will happen. Not too worried about who is in power as all the parties agrees when it comes to looking after themselves. I'm just praying that we get a new face with fresh mind, brain and thoughts and would think about looking after the nation when it needs to be prioritised.
No way i believe the election will be fair. It is all set and Awami League will be a target as usual. The leaders of Awami League has to understand the danger if they fail this time again, it will never going to be same again for the people of Bangladesh. It will be a hell for all of us.

While she was playing ‘hide and seek’ with the Election commission, Khaleda Zia, the honourable empress of the Republic, was criticised for four different dates of her birth. Khaleda, the former prime Minister resisted to be listed as a voter showing her complete disregard to the Public servants by choosing the time and space on which she wanted to be listed. The deadline is for the commoners and not for the mighty Empress! It seems, her job is to make laws for the subjects who need to abide by the law while she floats on the air majestically!
I am an ordinary citizen as well as a voter in Bangladesh.I always expect that all political parties will nominate those persons who are honest ,efficient ,qualified ,knowledgeable and patriotic.
But I persoanlly dont see the reflection of my expection regarding chosing the candidates for respective constitutuency. And I have become frustrated Our country never gets a good leader!
We are never ruled by the efiicient person! We dont want more from our leaders. Few days ago one of my friend told me a honest gentle member of parlament can’t do so many things for his people as well as his constituation what a rough & tough leader can do.Might be he is right but the basic speech is that the contributions of an honest and gentle leader for the developement our country might be verylittle ,on the other hand he never promote to do illegal business,to occupy the public property using this as his own property,to creat artificial crisis of essential product for that the price can be high,to manipulate the government recruitments.
As you can all see now that the election is not going to be fair. All the elements are against Awami League, the cardes of BNP in EC is working for BNP, all the media are giving good coverage of BNP as the media mainly own by BNP.
We like to ensure our enlighten future, a prestigious position in international arena, like to see us a happy nation with better life by bringing down food prices, achieving self-sufficiency in food, increasing energy production and curbing corruption. Awami League President Sheikh Hasina vowed to achieve these by fulfilling the following:
1. The economic development with self –reliance of food production, reducing the cost of food and living cost,
2. Increasing Generation of Power and Electricity that is the driving force of development,
3. Regional cooperation will be strengthened along with relationships with SAARC and BIMSTEC;
4. Solidarity with the Islamic Ummah will be enhanced and cooperation with the members of OIC shall be strengthened;
5. War criminals will be tried and religious terrorism will be suppressed with iron hand.
6. An effective investment-friendly environment as well as one-stop service will be set up to promote industrial growth;
7. Child labour will be prohibited and implementation of the UN convention on Child Rights that will provide happy childhood;
8. Opportunities will be created for investment by local and foreign entrepreneurs as well as Non-resident Bangladeshi (NRB) investors. Steps will be taken for utilizing the talents of the NRBs;
9. Steps will be initiated to abolish forever the repression of and discrimination against the religious minorities, small ethnic and the tribal communities. All laws which discriminate against them shall be rescinded;
10. Steps will be taken to cope with global warming, preservation of forest and bio-diversity as well as an environment free from water and air pollution;
11. Subsidy will be given to fertiliser, seeds, pesticides and other agricultural inputs,
I like to conclude with one most important point, i. e Sheikh Hasina is committed to give better career to young generation by 'Employment Guarantee Scheme by 2011 that will provide employment to one able-bodied young person per family
So please Cast your vote to Awami League and Alliance Candidates and help them to form Government.

Awami League must talk to the mid range Army Person and ensure them that thye will be ok. Although the inclusion of L.G Ershad eased the situation a bit.
But still, the army and it's family and family related people are huge number in Bangladesh. They are also well-educated and well-connected.
So, making vacuums between these people and Awami League is not good rather as they make a huge number of genuine votes and quite influential, Awami League should recognise them as their family members.
I have read the comment just before me and I am aware of the situation. I think, Awami League never thought the Army has any differences with Awami League. The war of Independence was fought by both the Mass population and the Army persons. Awami League is the perfect blend of all type of laders from all corners. Army will be as Army, well-respected and highly honoured by Awami League and it's leader Jono Netri Sheikh Hasina.
This is not gonna be Fair election. The CG is staging a huge drama against Awami League. I am telling you now, there will be a win for BNP as it is already done in the Media and inside the GOVT.

Mr. Mahmudur Rahman also trying to influence and advising the law enforcement officers and the govt. officers by the loyal BNP ex. IGP’s, DG’s, ASP’s. and the ex. There were valid ballot boxes (transparent) abandoned by the side of the road in Banani (a rich area close to where Mr. Mahmudur Rahman and a lots of those loyal BNP govt. officials Live). This is a clear message that the fake ballot boxes (will be filled with those printed ballot papers) were made to change with the valid one after the vote is finished. That do indicates that a part of the High level Govt. officials, advisors and a part of the army taking part of that.

We must remember that what we doing is for Bangladesh and the only party can take the Bangladesh foreward is Awamileague.

The Election of 2008 is not going to be fair. There will be widespred riggings, looting and killings there.
BNP, Jaamat will try to make it a massive killing jone, Jaamat has a histry of blood thurst, be aware of it.

I can not be more agreed to the last comment. Saying that, Awami League leaders sounds like have a bit more sense of morality and Honesty.
